The Grant House

Historic Office and Welcoming Home of Our Practice

The Grant House, nestled at 1227 De La Vina Street in Santa Barbara, is more than just a building—it’s a cherished member of our team. Built in 1902 by Charles and Ethelyn Grant, this home was designed with thoughtful craftsmanship, blending Colonial Revival, Prairie, Craftsman, and American Foursquare architectural styles. Its elegant Tuscan columns, leaded glass windows, and welcoming front porch reflect the character and charm of early 20th-century Santa Barbara.

The Grant House began as a family sanctuary, but its role as a place of care and refuge started early. After the 1925 earthquake, it temporarily transformed into a boarding house, offering shelter to displaced neighbors and reinforcing its legacy of providing comfort during times of need.

For nearly a century, the Grant family lived here, and through thoughtful renovation in the early 2000s, the home transitioned into a professional office while preserving its historic character. It was designated a City Structure of Merit in 1987, celebrated for its architectural significance and enduring role in Santa Barbara’s story.

Today, the Grant House continues its tradition of care as the heart of our practice. Its warm, sunlit rooms, timeless details, and welcoming spaces create an environment where clients can feel safe, supported, and inspired. From the inviting veranda to the bay windows where Louie, our therapy dog, naps between sessions, every corner of the house reflects a sense of calm and connection.

When you step through its doors, you’re not just entering an office—you’re becoming part of a space rooted in history, resilience, and humanity.

Please note that street parking is available, so we recommend allowing extra time to find a spot before your session. City Lot #5 offers 75-minutes of free parking and is located one block away on Chapala Street (1230 Chapala St, Santa Barbara, CA 93101).

While you wait, feel free to relax on the front veranda or step inside to the lobby. Restrooms are conveniently located at the end of the hall, directly opposite the front door. For those requiring assistance, an ADA-accessible entrance is available on the side of the building.

We look forward to welcoming you and making your visit as comfortable as possible!
